Our tiny jewellery store on Exchange Street was affectionately called the “cupboard under the stairs”.
But now we are moving on to a new, and significantly larger, store on the corner of Dove Street and Pottergate.
Today (Wednesday, August 17) we will officially move to the fully refurbished store, which had previously been Rainbow Wholefoods downstairs and the Treehouse restaurant above.
We have replaced nearly everything apart from the roof and the move represents a long-term investment of nearly £250,000 for us.
You are such brilliant, loyal customers and we decided the time was right to invest in our future and move on from our humble beginnings.
We are very proud of what Sonkai has achieved, it has been a lot of hard work but we are thrilled to offer you a beautiful new shop in the Norwich Lanes – with a little bit more elbow room!
To celebrate the move, we are raising money for the Big C with a raffle (where someone will win a diamond!) and are giving away gift vouchers worth £2,000 in total to the first 200 people who visit today.
The new store includes a dedicated “shop-in-shop” Pandora section, as well as our own jewellery and our other ranges, including the new Sophie Harley pieces.
In the future, we will also offer jewellery classes, so you can learn about goldsmith techniques and work on your own bespoke designs in Craig's workshop.
So come along and see us if you are in Norwich today, if not see you soon at our new store.
The eagle-eyed will have noticed that our phone number has changed.
You can now call the team at the new Sonkai store on 01603 625533.
Calls to our old number will still get to us for the time being.
Sonkai is now on Twitter, so make sure you add us to hear about exciting new promotions.
As our regular customers know, we will be making some big announcements soon about the new shop.
We will of course be tweeting all the updates, so stay in touch.
Sophie Harley jewellery is coming soon to Sonkai, and you might recognise one of her necklaces.
She designed the stunning "Algerian love knot" necklace worn by Eva Green in James Bond, Casino Royale.
It was commissioned especially for the film and Eva's character Vesper Lynd (one of the best Bond girls ever) is wearing the necklace in most of her scenes.
Here she is looking seductive (photo from www.007museum.com):

We find out at the end of the film that the necklace was a gift from her boyfriend, who she is trying to save from (fake) kidnappers. The necklace pops up again in Quantum of Solace.
The necklace is called the Orignal Loveknot and is exclusive to Sonkai in Norwich. It is part of the Loveknot collection and is silver and 22ct gold plate.
Here it is close-up:

Pandora has released two new design ranges this Spring in time for Mother's Day.
At Sonkai these sets have already been popular with many of our customers and we have just a few pieces remaining in store today.

The first set features a pale blue chalcedony stone and includes a ring, earring pendants, and necklace pendants. This beautifully feminine, elegant and classic design is both colourful and neutral. The second set, comprising of a bracelet charm and earring and necklace pendants, is designed using the ever-popular puff heart, but this time with a beautiful pink rhodolite gemstone.
The versatile earring and necklace pendants for both sets can be worn with different types of fastenings such as hoops or shepherd hooks, depending on your preference, and a selection of Pandora chains in varying styles and lengths are all available in store.
Prices from £35 to £95.
For those of you who knew we were having / have had a baby...
Foxley Harrison Snape was born on 22nd April this year at a whopping 9lb 6!
He is now four months old and doing really well - a really happy and
sparky chatterbox who loves life, food and people although somewhat
frustrated as he can’t walk yet and we don't understand all his
ramblings.
To those of you who sent us cards / gifts / good thoughts, thank you so
very much and my apologies for the delay in updating our site.
